In our Defense Position, we argue that US defense spending can be reduced without jeopardizing our national security. Jeffrey Sachs, a professor at Columbia University and bestselling author, provides a framework for such new thinking on defense in his recent book A New Foreign Policy: Beyond American Exceptionalism.
Sachs argues that the US must shift from a strategy of conventional military dominance to one that involves greater global cooperation and investments in global sustainable development. He urges an end to our perpetual involvement in “unwise and unwinnable” wars of choice.

My mission is to provide a resource to the millions of Americans who value fact-based, rational discussion and compromise over party affiliation. This includes:
objective research and reasonable approaches to addressing several of the major problems facing our country.
nonpartisan analysis on the current public and political discussion of these issues.
There are too many of us to ignore: 40% of Americans register as Independent because they have positions that cross party lines. Countless more lean Republican or Democrat but feel alienated by the extreme factions that influence each party and prevent progress through compromise.
